Musician Sinead O’Connor died of natural causes, according to a coroner’s assessment. The singer (“Nothing Compares 2 U”) was found lifeless in a London apartment last summer.
A coroner has now concluded that she died of natural causes, the British news agency PA reported, citing the Southwark Coroner’s Court.
The Irish musician died unexpectedly in July 2023 at the age of 56. Police said at the time that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Almost two weeks later, a number of people in Ireland said goodbye to the singer. In the coastal town of Bray, south of Dublin, numerous mourners lined the promenade. For example, Irish pop stars Bono, frontman of the band U2, and Bob Geldof took part in a private funeral ceremony.
O’Connor was one of Ireland’s most famous musicians. She had her international breakthrough in 1990 with the song “Nothing Compares 2 You”, written by Prince. Over the course of her career, she recorded several albums and experimented spiritually. She was also known for controversial appearances, for example tearing up a picture of Pope John Paul II in front of the camera in 1992.
