Are the series creators overdoing it this time? “The Crown” traces the fates of the British royals – since the 1940s. The death of Princess Diana (1961-1997) will probably play a major role in the new episodes…

The award-winning Netflix series has received a lot of criticism before. A controversy erupted at the start of season five last year when prominent figures criticized the portrayal of the characters and demanded a notice for viewers to clarify that the series is fictional.

Now “The Crown” is apparently risking a new dispute: Pictures from the set for shooting the new episodes have appeared in the British press. They show a replica of the wrecked Mercedes in which Princess Diana was in her fatal car accident in a Paris tunnel in August 1997.

In October, Netflix crews were reportedly spotted in the French capital recreating Diana’s last drive. Other scenes filmed in December are said to show investigators examining the wreck. While Netflix reportedly said at the time “the exact moment of the accident” would not be shown, a source told the Daily Mail: “I think a lot of people will find it quite sick that they went into so much detail to recreate how the car was smashed. I think it’s going to create a lot of excitement from the royal family. If it was any other family, I’m not sure they would.”

In the accident on August 31, 1997, Diana’s partner Dodi Al-Fayed (1955-1997) and the driver of the car, Henri Paul (1956-1997) were killed on the spot. Diana was taken to the hospital and died shortly afterwards from her injuries injuries. British bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones (55) is the only survivor of the accident.

Even for the presentation of the marriage crisis between today’s King Charles III. (74) and Diana criticized “The Crown”. Showing the circumstances of the death could lead to even more heated discussions. Other episodes of the last season should also have it all. For example, the series is said to be a big scandal from Prince Harry (38) …

The fifth season of “The Crown” ended in 1997 when Princess Diana was invited by Mohamed Al-Fayed for a holiday to St. Tropez. The sixth and final season could start there and take a few more years. Because: Prince Harry’s Nazi costume scandal is said to be a topic in season six of the Netflix series. This was reported by the British tabloid “The Sun”. King Charles’ son was photographed in the getup while attending a party in 2005.

Elizabeth Debicki (32) will reprise her role as Diana in season six. Already in season five she was seen as the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. Dominic West (53) will also return as Prince Charles. Imelda Staunton (67) will once again play Queen Elizabeth II, Lesley Manville (67) will once again play Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce (75) will return as Prince Philip in season six. Fans can also look forward to Olivia Williams (54) in the role of Camilla Parker Bowles, Khalid Abdalla (41) as Dodi Al-Fayed, Salim Daw (72) as Mohamed Al-Fayed and Bertie Carvel (45) as Prime Minister Tony Blair be happy.

A fateful encounter was also being reconstructed during filming in Scotland, as shown by images from the set at the University of St Andrews. In 2001, Prince William (40) and the then bourgeois Kate Middleton (41) met in that very place and later fell in love. For “The Crown” actor Ed McVey and actress Meg Bellamy have recreated the beginnings of royal love. Both McVey and Bellamy are newcomers to the acting scene, their roles in “The Crown” being their career highs to date. Luther Ford will also join the cast as Prince Harry.

A start date for the final episodes of the series has not yet been announced. The sixth season may appear on Netflix in late 2023.
