The legendary electropop band Kraftwerk will perform in Karlsruhe on August 12th. It was the only Germany concert of the Düsseldorf band this year, announced Karlsruhe Marketing and Event GmbH on Monday in Karlsruhe.
Kraftwerk will play on the balcony of the Karlsruhe Palace as part of the summer Schlosslichtspiele. A multimedia show is planned on the 170 meter wide facade of the historic building.
Band founder Ralf Hütter was quoted as saying in the statement that Kraftwerk’s long-standing connection with the renowned media artist Peter Weibel was decisive for the concert. “We will honor Peter Weibel’s outstanding life’s work for media art with a musical message in our performance,” said Hütter. Weibel, longtime head of the Karlsruhe Center for Art and Media (ZKM), died earlier this month at the age of 78.
