King Charles III (74) is looking for a new sous chef for Buckingham Palace. The new deputy chef will not only cook for the monarch, but also for palace staff and guests at large state banquets, according to the job posting. “This job is really unique,” reads there. The “Premier Sous Chef” will help lead “a team of talented professionals in the royal kitchens”.
Speaking on future responsibilities, the royals said: “As Assisting Chef, you will oversee day-to-day operations and ensure that every meal is of the highest standard, whether it’s a staff meal or a grand state banquet.” The new sous chef will join a 30-strong team operating out of six different residences, making “the opportunity and diversity offered by this role unmatched.”
The job posting goes on to say, “You will design and prepare a variety of menus and source the very best seasonal ingredients, as well as help manage inventory and coordinate staff rosters.”
Eligible to apply are chefs who are “highly qualified and experienced,” have worked at management level, and come from an upscale restaurant or five-star catering establishment. It would probably also be useful for the new palace employee to have experience in vegan cuisine. King Charles is vegan one day a week and vegetarian two days a week, as he once revealed in a BBC interview.
If you can’t cook but can manage money, you can also find a job at Buckingham Palace over the summer months. They are also currently looking for a cashier. “You will support the finance team during the busy summer months when Buckingham Palace opens its doors and shops to thousands of visitors,” reads the advert for the job.
The office of the royal private secretary is also looking for new staff, including for public relations. Letters the royal family receives “on social, community and national matters” should be answered here. There is also a vacancy for a program coordinator to plan King Charles’ official dates and travels. There is also a vacancy in the digital team at Buckingham Palace to drive innovation in this field for the royals.
