Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (40, “Les Miserables”, “She Came to Me”) and Emmy winner Michaela Coel (33, “I May Destroy You”, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) will star in the film “Mother Mary” take over. The US film studio A24 announced the new project directed by David Lowery (42, “The Green Knight”) on Tuesday.

The psychodrama revolves around a megastar singer (Hathaway) and her relationship with a fashion designer (Coel). Pop producer Jack Antonoff and singer-songwriter Charli XCX (“How I’m Feeling Now”) provide original songs for the film.

The Cologne company Augenschein Filmproduktion is on board as a producer. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW announced that the film will be shot entirely in North Rhine-Westphalia. The project will be funded with one million euros, it said.
