Prince William (40) showed his support for the LGBTQ scene in Poland with a special visit to a restaurant.

In Warsaw, the prince ate at a restaurant called “Butero Bistro”, which is a meeting place for the queer scene. The price of the food is likely to have been well below the usual Royals standard: the sandwich that William ordered and ate completely cost just under 8.50 euros.

Pictures of the prince, shot by another guest from the bar, show William accompanied by several employees from Kensington Palace at a table with several beers. The prince had previously come to Poland for a surprise visit to personally thank the Polish and British troops for their service.

The pub’s owner, Pawel Zasim, told the Daily Mail that the table had been reserved for a birthday party for “Daisy”. “But then a bodyguard showed up and said it wasn’t going to be a birthday party for Daisy and then Prince William walked in.” The guests stayed for three hours.

The owners recently posted a video on Facebook and Instagram in which an employee marks the chair on which the prince was sitting with the name tag “Prince William”. Among other things, they write: “We are also surprised, but where else should he feel comfortable and safe than in our queer and loving space?”

Poland has been heavily criticized internationally for its handling of homosexuality. The government, church and parts of the population are publicly inciting hatred against supporters of the LGBTQ scene. There are even “LGBT-free zones” in some places. In ILGA Europe’s “Rainbow Europe Index” in 2022, Poland came last for the third time among EU member states
