The new season of the RTL format “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here!” starts on January 19th. The show will once again take place in Australia. RTL brought the twelve more or less prominent participants there. The star presents them one after the other. Today: David Odonkor.

Millions of German football fans still remember June 15, 2006 clearly. It was the World Cup in their own country, Germany played against Poland in the second preliminary round game. Despite the home team’s overwhelming superiority, the score was still 0-0 after 90 minutes. But then substitute David Odonkor got the ball, passed it into the middle, where Oliver Neuville, who was also a substitute, made it 1-0 and shook the Westfalenstadion.
For Odonkor, it was the highlight of a football career that began promisingly: at the age of 18 he became German champion with Borussia Dortmund, and in the following years he developed into one of the best wingers in the league. But never again did his popularity reach such heights as on June 15, 2006. In the same summer, the player moved to Sevilla, but injuries repeatedly set him back. Even if you earn above average as a football player, not everyone invests their millions so wisely that they last a lifetime. And so Odonkor is not the first ex-kicker to make the trip to Australia: World champion Icke Häßler, goalkeeper Eike Immel and Brazilian striker Ailton have already sat in the jungle camp before him. Odonkor at least makes one promise: “In the jungle I’ll give it my all – just like on the football field.”
