She didn’t just sing about “Endless love”. Her appeal also seems to have no expiration date: music icon Diana Ross. Because while the Motown legend (“Stop! In the Name of Love”, “I’m Coming Out”) celebrates her 80th birthday on March 26th, she proves once again that attractiveness is ageless. As People magazine reports, Ross is at the center of the spring campaign for global fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello. And the internet is celebrating the timelessly beautiful music icon for it – including her own daughter.

The black and white campaign for the French label’s spring 2024 collection shows Diana Ross in luxurious outfits, photographed by star photographer David Sims (57). With her famous curly hair and her timeless elegance, she puts a curvaceous halterneck dress in the right light, among other things. The Detroit-born, former Supremes singer has lost none of her magical charisma.

Her fans, who celebrate her for the campaign on social media, also think so. But probably no one is as enthusiastic as Ross’ own daughter Tracee Ellis Ross (51). In the comments of the campaign announcement, she writes: “No one is like you!!!! NO ONE!!! Simply stunning.” And Tracee Ellis knows what she’s talking about. After all, she herself regularly tops the “best dressed” lists when she appears in public. In 2020 she even received the People’s Choice Award from the readers of the entertainment magazine “E!” as the best dressed woman. But no one can get close to her mother. Even back then, she praised Diana Ross as a “true icon” in her acceptance speech.

Diana Ross has been working on her icon status since the 1950s. Born in Detroit in 1944, she founded a five-piece band with school friends in 1959. She came into contact with the Motown Records label through a friendship with music legend and producer Smokey Robinson (83). From 1961 things went uphill steeply. With the Supremes she belted out evergreens like “Where did our love go” and “Stop! In the Name of Love”.

Since 1970 until today, Diana Ross has been extremely successful solo. Global hits such as the Marvin Gaye cover “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough”, “It’s My Turn” and “I’m Coming Out” shaped her status as a global star of the disco era, an icon of the LGBTQ community and almost ageless beautiful, confident woman. Attributes that may also have persuaded the house of Yves Saint Laurent and its Belgian-Italian fashion designer and creative director Anthony Vaccarello (41) to place Diana Ross at the center of its spring campaign.
