In the seventh week of “Germany’s next top model” (Thursday, 8:15 p.m., ProSieben), the aspiring models should first unleash their inner diva – with a homage to Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962). To do this, they have to rehearse the text and choreography for their hit “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” and present it as perfectly as possible at the video shoot the next day.
Sometimes the girls practice the choreo until 2 a.m. so that every step is spot on. But preparation is impossible this time anyway. The next day, the guys from the “social media group” Elevator Boys are suddenly in the wings. They tell the models that dancing to Marilyn Monroe is only the first part of the challenge – then they have to improvise on “Material Girl” by Madonna (64) and in conjunction with the It-Boys. Mirella (21): “I have speech disorders, I can no longer articulate myself, I’m so excited.”
Lip sync, dance choreography, steps, high heels, elevator boys, flying camera – blackout is pre-programmed for most girls. Selma (18) is the first. Although she forgets the lyrics in places, she blossoms when the boys court her by dancing. She coolly responds to advances, spins around and ultimately rejects the surprising marriage proposal.
Coco (21), on the other hand, gets a real blackout: “It distracts me when there are five good-looking boys standing there and snapping at me!” Lara (19) doesn’t manage to stay on task either. When the boys come to her, Lara does – just nothing. Instead of dancing along, she remains motionless. Heidi Klum (49) does not understand what was going on: “This is your moment and you don’t use it at all. Why?”
The choreo is not a problem for the dancer Cassy (23), but she has a different one: There is no shoe that fits her. Eventually, she squeezes her toes into one that’s way too small and still delivers. “In the end, this whole shoe drama was my salvation because I let go and just sat there,” she says happily afterwards. Cassy’s performance is the highlight for everyone on set. “Heavily impressed! All-round successful performance”, agree the Elevator Boys.
The next challenge is a decision walk with pitfalls. The candidates are supposed to follow a predetermined path on an LED catwalk, which lights up briefly and then disappears again. The path then shows in red whether they hit the right squares. The Elevator Boys are also back. “They’re back again and I have to do something in front of them AGAIN!” Desperate Coco.
As is usually the case with Heidi’s exercises, the model mom’s main concern is that the models don’t let themselves be thrown off course and that they appear self-confident. Vivienne (23), for example, is so good that designer Christian Cowan “doesn’t care at all” how many squares she didn’t hit. Cassy gets tons of compliments from the Elevator Boys again, including: “You just want to look at them!” And Anna-Maria’s (24) walk seems “a bit drunk” to Heidi, but Cowan thinks the “tipsy walk” fits perfectly: “They’re also party dresses!”
But self-confidence is not everything. The always confident Anya (19) looks extremely cool, but completely ignores the given route and just walks straight down the catwalk. After her video shoot wasn’t convincing either, Heidi curbed her arrogance: “If you present it like that, you expect a lot more”. After the criticism, Anya stomps off insulted and pummels the models who want to cheer her up: “Can’t you just walk away?”
For Lara, who seemed too shy in the shoot and on the catwalk, the dream of “GNTM” bursts. Heidi: “Sometimes you get the feeling that you don’t enjoy being in the spotlight. But I’m wondering if a job in the spotlight is right for you?” The top model makes the decision for Lara – she has to go.
