In February of this year it became known that Sylvie Meis and her husband Niclas Castello had split up. “We look back on very good times, but we have to recognize that our life situations are too different for a future together,” the couple said in a joint statement. The presenter and the artist got married in Florence in September 2020. For Meis it is the second failed marriage, from 2005 to 2013 she was married to footballer Rafael van der Vaart.
After the breakup with Niclas Castello, Sylvie Meis is in no hurry to meet a new man. The 45-year-old told the magazine “Gala”. “I didn’t suddenly go blind. Of course there are moments when you see someone, take a quick look, but half a second later it’s done. Now I want peace. I don’t want to escape into a new relationship just because I’m alone am.”
She enjoys being alone sometimes. Something that was often difficult for her in the past. Now Meis said: “I’m happy, because I’m enough for myself.” She also uses her free time to meet friends and see her family, especially her 16-year-old son Damian. The boy comes from her marriage to Rafael van der Vaart. For several years he has been living with his father and his new wife, handball player Estavana Polman, in Denmark in order to further his professional football career with the Esbjerg fB club.
Meis said of her son: “He’s as disciplined as me. As focused as both of us. He got the dry Dutch humor from Rafael. Damian is definitely as fashion-conscious as I am. And he also has a little penchant for the show. Oh yes, he is vain like me!” She also raved about Damian’s friend Laerke Wiktoria Wendel. Last summer they all vacationed together in Saint-Tropez.
Meis is known for always being perfectly styled on the beach. Paparazzi have been photographing the 45-year-old in a bikini for years. A situation that she increasingly finds stressful, said Meis. “I don’t want to do that to myself anymore. I’ve decided to go on vacation this year to a place where nobody will recognize me.”
