US comedian Pete Davidson (29, “Saturday Night Live”) has made a series about his life. The eight episodes of the Peacock production “Bubkis” are already celebrating their premiere on May 4th and a new trailer now offers a first glimpse.
The project is described as “a half-hour live-action comedy” and “an exaggerated, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s real life.” The series combines “grounded storytelling with absurdist elements from the unfiltered and wholly original worldview that Pete is known for,” writes Peacock.
A cast of stars joins Davidson on his absurd, semi-autobiographical journey. In addition to Hollywood legend Joe Pesci (80, “The Irishman”), there are greats like Machine Gun Kelly (32), Steve Buscemi (65, “Boardwald Empire”) or Bobby Cannavale (52, “The Watcher”) Hand.
La La Anthony (40, “You People”), Charlie Day (47, “Kill The Boss”) and Emmy award winner Edie Falco (59, “The Sopranos”) are also there.
If “Bubkis” really takes a strong cue from Davidson’s life, there could be some more serious themes in it as well. In the “Real Ones With Jon Bernthal” podcast, the stand-up comedian only spoke about his father’s death and his mental problems at the end of March.
So he’s currently trying to get used to being happy: “It’s a strange thing for me to understand now because I’ve been unhappy for so long that it felt normal.” Now he has people around him who love him: “It’s a whole new thing that I never thought of. It’s strange to be happy.”
For the promotion of the series, Davidson will soon celebrate a TV premiere: On May 6th he will appear for the first time as the presenter of “Saturday Night Live”, as reported by “The Hollywood Reporter”. The 29-year-old was first seen on “SNL” in 2014 and used the format as a career springboard.
