After the digital foundation two years ago, the Leipzig Book Fair is the first to be realized this year as a climate book fair, which is supported by a private association. Curator Gisela Wehrl spoke today in Leipzig of the great interest of the visitors in this topic.
During 14 public events, more than 30 authors will present a good 20 books and discuss the challenges posed by the climate crisis and species extinction. Patron is the television presenter and science journalist Eckart von Hirschhausen.
Oliver Zille, director of the Leipzig Book Fair, described the initiative as a “great opportunity for cooperation”. Climate is one of the most pressing issues in society. “The climate book fair is an opportunity to emphasize this topic again.”
From the point of view of the author Kathrin Böhning-Gaese (“On the Disappearance of Species”), it is about “not just being a warning, but also showing options for action with alternative future scenarios”.
After a three-year break due to the corona pandemic, the book fair has been open again since Thursday. According to the trade fair, 2082 exhibitors from 40 countries will be presenting their book-related innovations by Sunday. Austria is the guest country with around 200 authors in Leipzig.
