King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden turns 77 today, April 30. On the occasion of his birthday, the Swedish royal family shared congratulations and a portrait of the Swedish monarch on Instagram.

The photo shows the king in his uniform, consisting of a dark blue jacket with gold decorations and his royal medals. In his left hand, Carl Gustaf holds white gloves and an officer’s cane. He has the matching hat tucked under his arm. He also wears a light blue sash over his uniform.

“Today the king is 77 years old. The king was born on April 30, 1946 at Haga Castle,” the article reads. The king’s birthday is also a public flag day in Sweden, which is celebrated with a salute from the army band, according to the website of the Swedish royal family.

At around 1 p.m., 21 gun salutes were also fired. A new balcony will then be inaugurated at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, where the royal family is due to appear today as part of the birthday celebration.
