The German music producer Frank Farian (1941 – 2024) has died at the age of 82. According to consistent media reports, the artist’s family announced this on Tuesday (January 23) via the Allendorf Media agency. Accordingly, Farian died peacefully in his apartment in his adopted home of Miami, Florida.
Frank Farian was born Franz Reuther in 1941 and began attracting attention as a musician and producer in the 1970s. He founded globally successful pop music groups such as Boney M. and Milli Vanilli. The duo, consisting of singers Fab Morvan and Rob Pialatus, caused a major scandal in the music industry in 1990 when it became known that the two had not sung any of the songs themselves. In a Milli Vanilli biopic called “Girl You Know It’s True” released in 2023, Matthias Schweighöfer (42) took on the role of Frank Farian.
Frank Farian also worked with Stevie Wonder and Meat Loaf, among others, over the course of his career. As a producer and singer, he is said to have sold over 800 million records. With the group Boney M., which he produced, he created hits such as “Rivers of Babylon” and “Daddy Cool”.
