Michael Palin (79) has lost his wife. The actor, known among other things as one of the members of the world-famous comedy troupe Monty Python, says goodbye on his homepage with touching words.

Palin said his beloved wife passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning. He also published a photo in which both laugh happily towards the camera. Helen had had to live with chronic pain for several years, and later she was diagnosed with kidney failure.

On the Suffolk coast, the two met many decades ago – on a summer vacation. Both were only 16 years old at the time. A few years later, in his early twenties, the couple married. Just two and a half weeks ago, the two had celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

The actor calls the death of his wife Helen an “indescribable loss” for him, their three children Rachel, William and Thomas and for the couple’s four grandchildren. She was the rock in Palin’s life. Helen not only shaped his decisions with her “calm, wise judgement”, her practicality and humor were also at the heart of the relationship.
