This walk was worth it: a school was closed near Dorothee Bouwhous, so she went there with her husband and found discarded teaching material. “Since then, the cards have lived with us, but in the basement,” says the woman from Krefeld. Together with her sister Monika Schültingkemper, she has now brought the find to “Bares for Rares”.
These are school blackboards that are intended to illustrate the subject matter, as expert Detlev Kümmel explains. The four images are all from the 1960s and show the water cycle, horses, a train and a car repair shop. When asking the price, the sisters are modest: they would like “a Hunni” for everyone, says Dorothee Bouwhous. But Kümmel rates the bundle at 200 to 300 euros.
Jos van Katwijk is enthusiastic when examining the pictures in the dealer room. “The colors are great,” enthuses the Dutchman. Wolfgang Pauritsch offers 70 euros for the four roles at the start. The price is slowly moving up in increments of ten, but the saleswomen are obviously not doing that fast enough: At €140, Monika Schültingkemper simulates a yawn to express her boredom.
The dealers take the affront with humor: “Is it so boring here?” asks Pauritsch. “We’ve never had that before.” In fact, it now goes on in steps of 20, van Katwijk finally gets the bid for 180 euros. There are also two “Lucky Dollars” on top.
The sisters are completely satisfied: “That must be a great memory of our beautiful day here,” says Schültingkemper and gives her sister a kiss on the cheek.
