Wincent Weiss is in the red: at least financially, his tour that just ended with twelve concerts throughout Germany was a flop. The pop singer leaves the concerts with a significant loss, he told the “Hamburger Abendblatt”.
“The arena tour was a big loss for me,” admitted the 30-year-old. “Something like this used to be great, super economical, and now I’ve paid a high six-figure sum out of my own pocket.” According to his statement, however, this was not due to a lack of interest on the part of the audience: a total of 120,000 fans came to his performances. However, he didn’t earn any money with it – quite the opposite: “The first time we made a loss.”
Background: Weiss and his team had planned the tour under different conditions. The singer had sold the tickets before the corona pandemic, at that time for 65 euros per ticket. A lot has happened in the meantime: due to the pandemic, he had to postpone the concerts. “The current situation simply does not allow for a full arena show where everyone (should!) feel safe,” Weiss explained at the time.
And when the concerts were finally possible again this year in the usual form, inflation had struck. His costs had tripled, Weiss told the “Hamburger Abendblatt”. Even on his “Maybe Someday” tour, he didn’t benefit from the prices for concert tickets, which have also risen sharply in the meantime.
“But I really wanted to do the tour, people had to wait so long. And next year I’ll take a break and hope that the prices will have calmed down again at my next concerts,” said former DSDS candidate Weiss . The concert industry has been struggling since the pandemic: while superstars like Taylor Swift or Beyoncé are literally snatching tickets out of their hands, smaller acts still haven’t pulled themselves together. Some artists have to cancel performances for financial reasons or have to bear the costs themselves.
Like Wincent Weiss, who noticed a certain discrepancy between the ticket prices of German artists and big stars like Beyoncé recently at her concert in Hamburg: “People obviously pay the prices for an international star, but not for a national star. I think that a little unfortunate.”
