Pop singer Nicole (58) can hardly believe her luck: During a recent visit to the doctor, she heard “the best words of my life”, as she now revealed to “Bild am Sonntag”. The singer, who brought the ESC title to Germany in 1982 with her hit “A Little Peace”, defeated the breast cancer diagnosed in 2020.

“Nicole, you’re perfectly healthy. Go home, open one or better two bottles of champagne and clink glasses with your Winfried. You’ve done it!” The attending doctor revealed to her. Apparently, however, it took her a moment to realize the meaning of that statement. But then it came to her: “I’m healthy. The damn cancer is defeated. I can live on. With my husband, our children and grandchildren, with my music.” With tears in her eyes, she hugged her doctor before delivering the good news to her family.

She deliberately drove to the practice without her husband and their children – for fear of possibly getting bad news in her presence. “They all carried me through the past two and a half years, were always by my side, but in the end you have to go through it all alone.”

In December 2020 she received the shock diagnosis of breast cancer and was operated on shortly afterwards. At the beginning of the following year her chemotherapy started and she lost her long hair. “They were my trademark for a lifetime. Suddenly I was bald. That was hard,” as she also revealed to “Bild”.

All the worries are over now, the singer can look to the future with hope again – and she was also able to take a lesson from the difficult time: “Now I only do what I feel like doing.”
