Actress Caroline Peters (“Murder with a View”) spent a lot of time in bars in the 90s. “For me, the pub was a place where I often went in the 90s. Back then I was a student, a beginner, a young actress. And I moved to Berlin,” the 52-year-old told the German Press Agency. “I would say that 90 percent of my private life took place in bars back then.” They had no smartphones, no Netflix. “You didn’t do something alone with yourself all the time. You went out,” she said. And in the bars you could get all the information you need about life.
“Today I have the feeling that the pub is actually a discontinued model. Why do you need it when everything goes online? It’s kind of old school,” said Peters. “I suspect that there are still some neighborhoods in Germany where this still survives. But this concept – the pub as a place where everyone knows you, where your surrogate family is – doesn’t seem to me to be one that many people share anymore .”
Peters plays a landlady from the Ruhr area in a new RTL crime series “Die Neue und der Bulle – A Duisburg crime thriller”. Her character Cornelia “Conny” Majewski leaves her bar “Ruhrpott Flamingo” behind and joins the police as a career changer.
