On Sunday evening, the romantic thriller “Love Lies Bleeding” (2024) celebrated its international premiere at the Berlinale. Among others, director Rose Glass (born 1990) and one of her leading actresses, US star Kristen Stewart (33, “Spencer”), walked the red carpet before the screening of the American-British co-production to pose for the photographers.

Kristen Stewart, who became a teen idol with the vampire saga “Twilight” (from 2008), surprised everyone with an almost classic outfit. She wore a trendy skirt-suit combination in snow white. She paired it with white tights and black strappy peep-toes. So far, so classic-chic. What was unusual, however, was the transparent material, which visually extended the very short miniskirt to knee height.

And something else stood out. The hairstyle of the American, who headed the International Jury at the Berlinale last year, was reminiscent of the front-short-back-long versions that 1980s stars such as singer Nena (63) liked to wear. This fits in with her film, because “Love Lies Bleeding” tells the story of bodybuilding athlete Jackie (Katy O’Brian, 35), who falls in love with a gym employee with a criminal family background, Lou (Stewart), in the late 1980s .

The jury president for this year’s Berlinale is Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (40, “12 Years a Slave”). Together with the jury members Christian Petzold (63), Brady Corbet (35), Ann Hui (76), Oksana Sabuschko (63), Albert Serra (48) and Jasmine Trinca (42), Nyong’o decides on the award of the gold and the Silver Bear. The festival runs from February 15th to 25th.
