In the series “House of the Dragon” at the end of season one, the bitter civil war broke out between the supporters of the noble House Targaryen. In reality, the “Game of Thrones” spin-off is at loggerheads with another fantasy series – the extremely complex and therefore expensive Amazon production “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. The competition became abundantly clear on May 14th, because: Just a few hours after Prime Video released the trailer for the second season of “The Rings of Power”, HBO and Sky followed up with an equally epochal clip for the second “House of the Dragon” – Season after.

In the official trailer for the eight new episodes written by George R. R. Martin (75), both sides are preparing for war. This became unavoidable at the latest when one of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy, 31) sons died and Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell, 27) was also responsible for it – the son of her opponent Alicent Hohenturm (Olivia Cooke, 30 ).

In the approximately two and a half minute long clip for season two, it becomes clear that both parties to the conflict are ready to fight with even tougher conditions in the future. Even if it could mean that in the end neither side emerges as a winner and the whole world is in ruins. But there are also signs of an unexpected peacemaker: Alicent, of all people, can be heard saying in the trailer: “This senseless war must end” – but it seems far too late for that.

The new episodes of “House of the Dragon” will be released in the USA on June 16th, in this country they will be broadcast again by Sky or the streaming service Wow directly afterwards on the night of May 17th. The trailer may have appeared shortly after the second season of the “Lord of the Rings” series. But the series itself returns with a head start: The new episodes of “The Rings of Power”, which invite you back to Middle-earth instead of Westeros, will only be available to all Prime Video customers from August 29th of this year.
