A London auction house has auctioned off several costumes from period films, including a well-known shirt worn by actor Colin Firth from the film adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice”. The entire costume fetched 20,000 pounds (around 23,400 euros) on Tuesday evening, according to the Kerry Taylor Auctions website. There are also the auction fees.
The BBC’s six-part TV series, which was released in 1995 based on Jane Austen’s novel, is considered a cult in Great Britain. Firth played Mr. Darcy in it. In one scene he jumped into a lake with his clothes on, swam through the water, then trudged across a meadow with a wet top and met Elizabeth Bennet, played by Jennifer Ehle.
A costume worn by Hollywood star Johnny Depp from the horror film “Sleepy Hollow” by director Tim Burton fetched 24,000 pounds (around 28,000 euros). A dress that musician Madonna wore while filming “Evita” fetched 40,000 pounds (46,800 euros).
Drew Barrymore’s dress from the Cinderella film “Forever and Ever” went under the hammer for 16,000 pounds (around 18,700 euros). In addition, there are additional fees for the buyer. The proceeds will be used to support a foundation for cultural education founded by Oscar-winning costume designer John Bright.
