The sports presenter Esther Sedlaczek (38) is deleting her Instagram app on her cell phone in the wake of the upcoming home European Championships next summer. The reason: She doesn’t feel like receiving hateful comments during her work for the ARD team at the major football event. She also took this approach at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. It has proven itself, she explained in the “Spielmacher” podcast alongside her colleague Sebastian Hellmann (56). She did this in order to be able to stay out of “any discussions.”
“I wanted to avoid reading any hate comments and made a conscious decision to outsource Instagram, so to speak,” explains Sedlaczek. She will now handle it the same way at the European Championships. During this time, her profile, which currently has a total of 241,000 followers, will be maintained by a friend who will continue to provide fans with information about Sedlaczek and her participation in the European Championship. She wants to concentrate “100 percent” on the tournament and not be distracted. Under no circumstances does she want to waste energy “reading negative comments.”
In some cases, these comments – but also direct messages to her – go “well below the belt”: “What people sometimes take out, also in relation to other people, I find crazy and unfortunately also very sad in some cases. Although you ” The tank is now quite thick and a lot of things bounce off of it, but it doesn’t always succeed.
She can’t please everyone and the aim shouldn’t be to please everyone: “First and foremost, I want to be who I am, as authentic as possible.” Of course she’s happy if it’s well received by people, but she also has to live with it “if it doesn’t go down so well with other people.”
In addition to many other TV projects, Sedlaczek has been moderating the “Sportschau” on Erste since 2021. Her first appearance at a major tournament was at the aforementioned 2022 World Cup in Qatar alongside former DFB captain Bastian Schweinsteiger as an expert. She received a lot of praise for her interview conduct and relaxed moderation with Schweinsteiger.
