Pia scratcht: Children’s language development goes through various steps, and this also includes the acquisition of sounds, which means that some sounds are not acquired right from the start, but rather develop step by step. And this can also lead to various phonetic-phonological processes occurring. These are things like shifting different sounds forward or backward or replacing one sound with another. And many of them occur naturally in children’s language development and continue to develop on their own up to certain age guidelines. But there are also children for whom this further development does not happen on its own or that processes occur that do not occur in physiological language development. And in these cases you go to a speech therapist.
