After the Oscars is before the Olivier Award. Shortly after the presentation of the most important American film award, the nominations for the most important British theater award are now here. In the midst of British Shakespeare mimes there is a Hollywood star. Sarah Jessica Parker (58) is nominated for best actress.

The “Sex and the City” actress is in the running for her performance in “Plaza Suite.” In the comedy by Neil Simon (1927-2018) she plays alongside her real-life husband Matthew Broderick (61). Unlike his wife, the “Ferris Makes You Blue” star came away empty-handed in the nominations.

In the production of “Plaza Suite”, also known as “Hotelgehisper” in Germany, Parker and Broderick play three different couples who reside one after the other in the same hotel room. The American star couple has already performed the play on Broadway.

At the Olivier Award, Sarah Jessica Parker is competing against an actress who also became known with an American TV series: Sarah Snook (36). The Australian already won a Golden Globe for her role in “Succession” as a potential heiress to a media company.

Sarah Snook is nominated for “The Picture of Dorian Gray” at the Olivier Awards. In the adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s novel, she plays even more characters than Sarah Jessica Parker in “Plaza Suite”: in the one-woman show she takes on a whopping 26 roles.

The men’s nominees include “Shakespeare in Love” star Joseph Fiennes (53), David Tennant (52, “Doctor Who”, “Good Omens”) and Andrew Scott (47), who is currently in the cinema with “All of Us Strangers” caused a sensation.

The Olivier Award has been presented since 1976. He is named after the great actor Laurence Olivier (1907-1989). It is considered the British equivalent of the Tony Award, the largest American award for theater and musicals.
