Sylvester Stallone (77) is apparently filming “Cliffhanger 2” in the Dolomites. This is reported by the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. According to the report, Birgit Oberkofler, chairwoman of the IDM South Tyrol film funding commission, which is funding the project with 400,000 euros, announced that filming will take place on locations in the South Tyrolean Alps.

The filming of the 1993 film “Cliffhanger – Only the Strong Survive” also took place in the Dolomites. The film was originally supposed to be shot in the Rocky Mountains, where the film’s action also takes place. However, the US Environmental Protection Agency is said to have refused a filming permit.

Now the Dolomites will officially be the setting for “Cliffhanger 2,” according to the “FAZ” report. At the end of last year there were already the first details about the sequel to the 1993 film. The Film FernsehenFonds Bayern (FFF Bayern), which is supporting the production with two million euros, announced in a statement that “Cliffhanger 2” with Sylvester Stallone would also be filmed in Bavaria, including in the Penzing Studios and downtown Munich. According to the announcement, “well over half of the filming” will take place in Bavaria, with production scheduled to begin in summer 2024.

“Cliffhanger 2” is being created as a German-British co-production between Black Magic Films based in London and the Munich company Supernix in collaboration with Original Films (USA). The film is directed by French filmmaker Jean-François Richet (57).

According to media reports, a sequel to “Cliffhanger – Only the Strong Survive” has been under discussion for years. The plot of the second film will again revolve around Gabe Walker, who will be portrayed again by Sylvester Stallone. Walker now apparently lives in the Dolomites and is in danger there.
