The world-famous pianist Lang Lang has been honored with a star plaque in Hollywood. The 41-year-old Chinese native unveiled the 2,778th star on the “Walk of Fame”.
A dream has come true, said Lang Lang in his acceptance speech. Now he is immortalized alongside classical music stars such as Vladimir Horowitz and Arthur Rubinstein. He recalled his beginnings at the piano in China at the age of two and his move to the USA as a 14-year-old student.
Music would make the world a better place, said Lang Lang. He wants to share this gift with everyone and, above all, inspire young people to play an instrument. Lang Lang is unconventional, takes risks and is simply a phenomenon, said Dickon Stainer from the music company Universal Music Group. The musician brought his parents and his wife, the German-Korean pianist Gina Alice Redlinger (29), to the ceremony. The couple has a three-year-old son. Lang Lang posed beaming on the star plaque, moving his fingers as if he were playing the piano on it. In fact, he sat down at a piano in front of photographers and onlookers on Hollywood Boulevard and showed off his skills.
Lang Lang became known worldwide after his performance at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
