Greta Gerwig celebrated her 40th birthday on Friday (4 August). Ryan Gosling (42), the main actor in her film “Barbie”, gave the director and author a special gift. A video showing the surprise of the Ken actor was published on the official Instagram account of the cinema success.
“As the Kens know, sometimes the only way to express your feelings is through song and dance,” the video commented. “Ken Ryan sent these special Barbies and Kens to start off Greta’s birthday with all these sentiments!” The clip shows a dance group performing in a flash mob to Gosling’s song from the film “I’m Just Ken” and Dua Lipa’s (27) song “Dance the Night”. Gerwig follows the performance with joy and apparently even lets a few tears flow.
The director not only has every reason to celebrate because of her birthday. “Barbie” will soon join the list of films that have grossed more than one billion dollars at the box office. In North America alone, “Barbie” grossed more than 400 million US dollars after exactly two weeks, reports the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter”. Never before has a Warner Bros. film achieved such a box office result so quickly. If you now add the international earnings, “Barbie” is now more than 900 million US dollars. The trade journal predicts that production will break the billion mark by Sunday or early next week at the latest.
