More than 90,000 visitors came to this year’s Bad Hersfeld Festival. The result exceeded expectations, explained director Joern Hinkel on Sunday. Hinkel referred to inflation and bad weather conditions this summer. In the previous year, more than 75,000 visitors were counted, albeit still with corona restrictions. According to the information, the total utilization rose from 71 to around 80 percent.

At the same time, Hinkel stated that he wanted to leave the festival after the 2025 season. In total, he was then in Bad Hersfeld for more than eleven years, eight of them as director.

This Sunday, the 72nd edition of the festival will come to an end with a final gala. Since the opening on June 30, the Shakespeare drama “King Lear” – the leading role was cast by actress Charlotte Schwab – as well as the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Dead Poets Society” have been shown.

The festival will take place next summer from June 21 to August 18, 2024.
