The summer holidays are over and life is getting serious again – even with the royals. For Infanta Sofia of Spain (16) that means: Adiós España and welcome Great Britain! Like her older sister Sofia (17), the youngest daughter of the Spanish royal couple is attending UWC Atlantic College in Wales for her last two school years. That was given by her parents, King Felipe VI. (55) and Queen Letizia (50) already known in February. Now it’s time to say goodbye.

Current photos show Sofiá shortly before leaving Madrid. Packed with two suitcases, the 16-year-old says goodbye to her parents and the family dog in front of the Zarzuela Palace. The teenager seems excited about her time in Wales.

Sofía is completing a two-year program at the renowned school in the Welsh town of Llantwit Major and is scheduled to graduate in 2025 with the International Baccalaureate, a globally recognized university entrance qualification. She lives there like the other students in the attached boarding school on campus. Her parents say they are covering the cost of around £74,000 themselves.

The UWC facilities are considered to be absolutely elite schools across the country, which are only open to a few young people. The court’s communication therefore expressly states that Sofía went through the entire, partly anonymous selection process. In addition to her older sister Leonor, who has been attending the military academy in Zaragoza since last week, other young royals have already gone to school at the UWC Atlantic College, including Princess Elisabeth of Belgium in 2020 (21), King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands in 1985 (56 ) and in 2023 his daughter Princess Alexia (18).
