The body of engineer Daniela Nowak is found in Slubice. The victim lived in Cottbus and worked for the contractor Karl Winkler, who was renovating an entire block there. Is the murder related to the construction project? As detective Adam Raczek (Lucas Gregorowicz) finds out, the victim wanted to meet with Israeli Zvi Spielmann, a Holocaust survivor whose father built one of the houses and claims it. The solution lurks somewhere deep in the past.

The twelve dark years between 1933 and 1945 shape German society to this day. But with the death of the last contemporary witnesses, a vital part of the culture of remembrance breaks away. That’s why it’s all the more important to keep telling the story and stories. The “Polizeiruf” episode “Hermann” makes a small but valuable contribution to this – which also has a terrific cast coup with the Israeli actor Dov Glickman known from the Netflix series “Shtisel” in the role of the Holocaust survivor Zvi Spielmann.

Unfortunately, the case is not always easy to understand. As for the matter: A story that revolves around old deeds of donation and side clauses in contracts from the 1930s is naturally a bit dry. Some viewers might be put off by this.

Adam Raczek returns to his former workplace. He has worked in Cottbus before – and not only left friends there. In particular, he shares a hearty dislike with his then head of department, Markus Oelßner (Bernd Hölscher). On the other hand, the cooperation with his ex-colleague Alexandra Luschke (Gisa Flake), who Raczek regularly wants to persuade to have a beer together after work, works much better.

Despite some difficulties in understanding, the history lesson is worth it: Be sure to tune in.

The “Polizeiruf” episode “Hermann” was first broadcast on December 5, 2021. ARD repeats the case on Friday, September 1, at 11:30 p.m.
