Prince Albert II (65) of Monaco spoke about his marriage in an interview with “Corriere della Sera”. “Charlène is always by my side,” he explained. He clarified that he doesn’t understand all these rumors about her living somewhere else; that’s a “lie.” “These rumors hurt me,” adds the 65-year-old.
Albert said in the interview about his wife’s past health problems: “Charlène had some difficulties many months ago, but now, thank God, she has overcome them and she is always by my side.” They are not together 24 hours a day because they are a working couple. Because of their work, they can sometimes only see each other “at the end of a long day full of appointments,” said the prince.
The 45-year-old Charlène and Albert II have made numerous appearances together in the past few days. At the weekend they went to the traditional Monegasque picnic “U Cavagnëtu” with their children. Before that, the royal couple received the new French ambassador in Monaco and they were guests on a TV station.
The former swimmer and Prince Albert II married on July 1, 2011, and the church wedding followed the day after. The twins Gabriella and Jacques were born in December 2014.
In the spring of 2021, Charlène fell ill during a trip to her home country of South Africa. According to media reports, she had a severe ear, nose and throat infection, which allegedly even required one or more operations.
The princess could not be transported and had to stay in South Africa for several months. When she returned to Monaco, she only stayed with her family briefly. This was followed by a stay in a rehabilitation clinic in Switzerland. She only returned home in spring 2022 and has been taking part in public events again since then. Speculation surrounding her absence has always been denied. “My family is my rock,” she told the newspaper “Monaco Matin” at the end of 2022.
