Only three months until the theatrical release of “Aquaman 2” and still hardly any material has been released – fans were already worried about the sequel to the superhero hit with Jason Momoa (44). But now DC Comics and Warner Bros. have finally released the first teaser for the underwater spectacle. Or a teaser for the first full trailer, which is scheduled to appear on Thursday (September 14).

The 30-second clip doesn’t reveal much. “I will kill Aquaman and destroy everything he loves,” vows villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, 37). In the first part of 2018 he failed in this endeavor. There are also a few spectacular pictures that promise plenty of underwater action.

The teaser comes at the right time for Warner Bros. The fans were just starting to get impatient. “‘Aquaman 2’ is coming out in three months and there’s still no trailer. Why isn’t anyone panicking?” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter). “Because they know he’s bad,” another speculated in response. Since we already know that the film would hardly make any sales, we don’t put any money into marketing, so one assumes.

One indication that those responsible don’t have too much confidence in “Aquaman 2” is actually the start date. Because it remains as planned on December 20, 2023. With “Dune 2,” Warner Bros. recently pushed back a potential blockbuster from November 2023 to spring 2023. Due to the actors’ strike, marketing would have been neglected. Finally, members of the SAG-AFTRA union are not allowed to promote films.

This fear apparently does not apply to “Aquaman 2”. This gave the impression that Warner had already checked off the success of the film.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, the official title of the sequel, should come to cinemas in December 2022. Due to late effects of the corona pandemic, the studio postponed the start to March 2023.

Other cast members from 2018’s Aquaman are returning alongside Jason Momoa and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Patrick Wilson (50) plays Aquaman’s half-brother Orm Marius again. Nicole Kidman (56) and Dolph Lundgren (65) are also back. Amber Heard (37) is not missing either. There were rumors that she could be cut due to the negative headlines surrounding her court case against ex-husband Johnny Depp (60).
