Rapper Tory Lanez (31, “Say It”) received a ten-year prison sentence in August for shooting US rapper Megan Thee Stallion (28, “Body”). His lawyers appealed the verdict. Lanez has now failed in an application for bail in the ongoing proceedings.
A judge in Los Angeles rejected the application on the grounds, among other things, that there was a risk of flight, as US media reported on Thursday. The native Canadian lived in the USA before his imprisonment, is married there and has a six-year-old son.
The incident occurred in July 2020 after a party in Hollywood. Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, had gotten into an argument with Megan Thee Stallion and shot the musician in the feet on the street. The Grammy winner, whose real name is Megan Pete, was injured. The case caused a stir on social media. A jury in Los Angeles found him guilty in December 2022.
