Mark Wahlberg (52) has had many jobs. He became known, among other things, as a member of the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch and as a model. However, the first successes in front of the TV and film cameras soon followed. He is now a respected actor and has also worked as a film producer for almost two decades. Wahlberg explains why he chose the producer job in an interview with the US magazine “Cigar Aficionado”.

“I started producing out of necessity,” Wahlberg explains in a clip. The reason for the step lies in the popularity of his colleagues. The now 52-year-old says: “I didn’t want to sit around and wait for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and was a star at the time […] to pass on a film until I saw it could get my hands on.” In addition to Tom Cruise (61) and Brad Pitt (59), Wahlberg also mentions Leonardo DiCaprio (48) in this context.

Wahlberg always actively tried to “find material and things” that he could devote himself to – that he knew “were right for me.” He wanted to find a way for himself and his “own destiny” “to get to where I wanted to be.” Creative control is also important to him.

According to the industry magazine “Variety,” Wahlberg further explains in the interview that he might also try his hand at directing in the future. He is currently working harder than ever before. But he also indicated that things might get quieter for him in the coming years, at least in front of the cameras.
