The local police believe that she was taken by the sea. But it is the Norwegian police is not quite so sure.

The young Norwegian woman of 21 years was traveling in south Africa, when she was last seen alive on the beach Myoli Beach in the town of Sedgefield on the 18th. april of last year.
Shortly after the beach was hit by a fierce storm – and since Marie Sæther Østbø been missing.
The local police, fire department and volunteers launched an extensive search to find her, but already a week later was the search stepped down, writes the Newspaper.
Now the Norwegian police travel down to the area where she was last seen. It tells inspector Sigve Espeland from Sørvest politidistrikt to Stavanger Aftenblad.
“We have a lot of issues linked to the disappearance, as we have not yet received an answer. It is for this reason that Sørvest politidistrikt and Kripos (the Norwegian criminal police, ed.) want to send representatives to south Africa. We can travel already in January,” he explains.
Politiinspektøren says further, that you have asked for more information related to Marie Sæther Østbøs disappearance, and that it has sent a formal request to the police in south Africa.
“We have no police down there. What we can do, is to ask questions. As it is now, we don’t have enough information to conclude either the one or the other in this case,” explains Sigve Espeland.
Marie Sæther Østbøs father – Atle Østbø – has also previously spoken out critically about the investigation of the case. To NRK, he told in the summer that he has no doubt that his daughter was the victim of a crime.
“It has been anything criminal in that she did not come back at the hotel. Marie would never been stung,” he said.
