The Paris rapper MHD, real name Mohamed Sylla, was sentenced to twelve years in prison last Saturday. This is reported, among others, by the French daily newspaper “Le Monde”. Accordingly, the musician and five of his co-defendants were sentenced to prison after a trial lasting more than two weeks stemming from a fatal brawl between rival gangs in Paris in 2018.
According to the newspaper “Le Figaro”, the convicts are said to have been involved in the brawl in downtown Paris in July 2018, in which a 23-year-old was stabbed and died from his injuries. Mohamed Sylla, whose car was seen near the crime scene, protested his innocence in the trial. The public prosecutor’s office pleaded for an 18-year prison sentence for the rapper.
The defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from ten to eighteen years, with the maximum sentence imposed on a defendant who is a fugitive and convicted in absentia. Three other men were acquitted. The prosecution and defense now have ten days to file an appeal.
The rapper, who is dedicated to Afro Trap music, released his first album of the same name “MHD” in 2016. In particular with the song “Afro Trap Part. 3 (Champions League)”, a homage to the capital’s football club Paris Saint -Germain, he was able to celebrate a success. His third album “Mansa” was released in 2021.
