Within a few days, the Netflix series “Lupin” cracked the 90 million viewer mark when it launched in January 2021 – surpassing successful series such as “Bridgerton” or “The Queen’s Gambit”, which also premiered at that time. The series with “Pretty Best Friends” star Omar Sy in the lead role is now one of the most streamed foreign productions on the US streaming portal, alongside “Squid Game” and “Money Heist”. The recipe for success of “Lupin”: an extremely charismatic leading actor who shines with a sophisticated storyline in front of an impressive Parisian backdrop.

Now the crime series is returning with what is now its third sequel – almost 2.5 years after the last episode appeared on Netflix in June 2021. Fans of the series can look forward to the longest season of “Lupin” to date with seven episodes, in which the master thief Assane Diop, after taking revenge on Hubert Pellegrini at the end of last season, has to go into hiding, turn his back on Paris and leave his family behind . But Diop can’t stand being without his family for long; the pain of the separation is too great.

But by returning to the French capital, he not only endangers his own life, but also that of his great love Claire and son Raoul. As if that wasn’t enough drama, the master thief is also being blackmailed with his mother, who has been kidnapped and will only be released in exchange for a “Black Pearl”. Finding and stealing the well-guarded piece of jewelry is a major challenge even for the experienced master thief. Emmy winner Louis Leterrier (“The Incredibles – Now You See Me”) is responsible for directing the third part. And the cast also sounds promising.

In addition to Omar Sy in the lead role of Diop, the sequel will also star Etan Simon as Dio’s son Raoul, Ludivine Sagnier as Claire, his best friend (Antoine Gouy) and police officer Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab).

Also there: the dog J’accuse, who Diop lost sight of during an escape at the end of the previous season. The absence of the lady dog caused unrest online in mid-2021. Users on “Reddit” wondered what happened to the four-legged friend – and demanded clarification from the series creators. This should now follow at the beginning of October after 2.5 years.

The third season of “Lupin” will be available to stream on Netflix on October 5, 2023.
