HOUSTON — On Saturday morning, three constable deputies were ambushed while they worked an extra shift at a Houston bar. One deputy was killed and two others were wounded. Authorities in Texas confirmed the incident.
According to Chief James Jones, Houston Police Executive Assistant Chief, authorities took one person into custody and were still looking for the shooter.
Jones stated that the Harris County constable deputies were at the 45 North Bar and Lounge when a disturbance occurred outside of the establishment around 2:05 a.m. Jones confirmed Jones’s statement.
Jones stated that they were trying to arrest someone, but another man with a rifle approached them and opened fire from behind on them, according to preliminary information at the scene.
Mark Herman, Harris County Constable, Precinct 4, said that one deputy was shot in his back while another was shot in his foot. The hospital declared the third deputy dead.
Jones stated that it was not clear if the deputies fired back. Jones said that Houston police are still investigating but that authorities suspect the disturbance was a robbery.
The authorities took a person of interest into custody, but they were not sure if the suspect was a witness.
