His management agency Big Hit Music announced that Jimin, a K-pop singer and dancer in the group BTS, had tested positive for coronavirus. He also underwent surgery to treat acute appendicitis.

Jimin, who is actually Park Ji-min, was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe abdominal pain and a sore throat. Big Hit Music released a statement.

 

The statement said that he tested positive for coronavirus and had surgery for appendicitis Monday.

Big Hit Music stated that Jimin had a successful surgery and was currently recovering from the procedure. He also said that he was making a speedy recovery from COVID-19.

According to the statement, the singer would receive in-patient COVID-19 treatment and post-operative care for several days.

Jimin, 26 years old, is at most the fourth member of seven members to test positive for coronavirus.

Soon after returning from a series in the United States, rapper RM, Jin and rapper Suga were tested positive for HIV in December.

BTS performed the first concert in America since 2019, when the band toured throughout Asia, Europe, and North America.

BTS has been a leader in K-Pop since their 2013 debut. They have embraced a global craze for K-Pop with upbeat, catchy music and dances as well as lyrics, social campaigns, and social messages aimed at young people.

South Korea has managed to keep overall COVID-19 deaths and cases low through aggressive contact tracing. However, the Omicron variant took over this month and sent cases to an all-time high of 17,532 cases on Sunday.
