The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children seem to be an almost completely normal family, only with blue blood – and that’s where things go wrong. The parents’ current argument is said to be the future of their eldest son, Prince George. Will he go to a boarding school like his ancestors or not?
Prince William attended Eton College at the age of 13 and left home to do so. Eton College is a boys’ secondary school in the English county of Berkshire, which is also home to the town of Windsor, his family’s new home. Around 1,300 boys aged 13 to 18 attend school at Eton College.
Prince William and Harry had a pretty good time visiting Eton College. Her father, King Charles III, once had to attend Gordonstoun, a well-known boarding school, at the request of his father, Prince Philip. Far from home, he had to move to the north coast of Scotland at the age of 13, Eton College was too close to home for Prince Philip. It is known that King Charles felt uncomfortable at the private school, so Prince William and Prince Harry were not allowed to attend.
The third in line to the throne, Prince George, will apparently follow in his father and uncle’s footsteps and attend Eton College. His mother, Duchess Kate, is said to have bowed to William’s ideas after months of discussion, the British magazine “Express” reports, citing a source close to the Wales family.
The insider said: “Kate has long disagreed with sending him away, even though it is tradition. Kate feels sending him to such a stuffy, upper-class institution goes against all her efforts to modernize the monarchy. But she will do it.” She is reported to have said that she will “miss George terribly”. But the source also says: “She and William argued about it for years, but he finally won.” It is said that Duchess Kate is “heartbroken” about this decision.
Eton College costs around £15,432 per semester. However, it’s not just money that opens the doors to the elite boys’ school. The British portal “Mirror” writes: “There is an entrance exam with a demanding 150-minute test of verbal and mental expression, in which candidates usually need a score of 125 or more to be considered.”
The family will probably still have a little time to emotionally adjust to the new family situation. Prince George turned ten in the summer; his royal ancestors normally went to secondary boarding schools from the age of 13.
