Jan-Lennard Struff was the first German tennis professional to reach the round of 16 at the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. A week after his first title on the ATP tour in Munich, the 34-year-old from Sauerland won 7:5, 6:4 against Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
Struff showed a convincing performance and used his second match point to win after 1:37 hours with a forehand. The experienced player managed 34 direct winning shots against the number 13 seed Humbert and only made 18 minor errors. His next opponent could be Spain’s star Carlos Alcaraz.
On Sunday, Daniel Altmaier and Alexander Zverev also have the chance to advance.
