Chronic patients, who require constant and permanent medication, know that every year they have to be aware that the electronic prescription has been renewed by the doctor. Pharmacies receive instructions from the health center to administer the drugs required by each patient. The usual thing is that the renewal is practically automatic, but if that instruction does not arrive, you have to go to the outpatient clinic to do it. Avoiding these trips is the objective of the SMS service that the Madrid Ministry of Health has begun to use this Tuesday: up to 10,000 messages will reach users a day to inform them that the order for the pharmacy to dispense their treatment has already been renewed .
In the SMS they will also inform of the date until which the dispensing of their medicines is valid. Every time your family doctor or pediatrician reactivates your medication, after review and validation by these professionals, the user will receive a text message with this information.
Once the notification is received, the citizen will be able to go directly to the pharmacy to purchase the treatment until the date of the next corresponding review with the health professional.
The General Directorate of Information Systems and Health Equipment of the Ministry of Health estimates that more than 10,000 SMS of these characteristics will be sent daily, taking into account that in the Community of Madrid there are approximately 3.6 million people in these circumstances.
This new service will also be available in the future from the Virtual Health Card App, in the Push Notifications section. “This is a new functionality in this application that will complement the ‘My Medication’ module, where you can currently consult the medication prescribed by the doctor and the date of its next collection at the pharmacy,” they report in the Ministry of Sanbinity.
In addition, this information can be accessed in My Health Folder, the electronic service in which clinical data can be consulted and health appointments managed with a doctor, nurse and paediatrician, through a digital certificate or electronic DNI.
