Viewers can see “Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk (61) in a new leading role in the series in November. In addition, the so-called MonsterVerse about Godzilla and Co. will be continued as a series on the Apple TV streaming service. In addition, the major streaming services have two exciting productions coming up in which German stars can shine.

The most exciting series restarts of November at a glance.

The series month of November is ushered in on the popular streaming service Netflix with the touching historical series “All the Light We Don’t See”. The story: When the Nazis take over Paris in the summer of 1940, the blind Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) flees to the city of Saint-Malo with her caring father Daniel (Mark Ruffalo, 55) and an extremely valuable diamond in her luggage. In Brittany they find shelter with their uncle Etienne (Hugh Laurie, 64), who was traumatized by the First World War. Meanwhile, the talented German youth Werner Pfennig (Louis Hofmann, 26) is being trained as a radio operator in Hitler’s Germany. In 1944, Werner and Marie-Laure’s paths fatefully cross, just as US troops are about to take Saint-Malo.

The new Netflix series “All the Light We Don’t See” impresses with a veritable star cast: In addition to “Dr. House” lead actor Laurie and Ruffalo, known from the Marvel films, both of whom embody French characters, “Dark” also works. -Star Hofmann and a diabolically acting Lars Eidinger (47) in front of the camera. Shawn Levy (“Free Guy”, 55) is responsible for directing from a script by Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders – Gangs of Birmingham”, 64). “All the Light We Don’t See” is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Anthony Doerr (50). The book won the Pulitzer Prize in 2015.

Things then get nerve-racking in the thriller series “A Murder at the End of the World”. In the mystery show, a reclusive billionaire (Clive Owen, 59) invites a select group of guests to a meeting in an extremely remote location. When one of the visitors is found dead there, the young hacker Darby Hart (Emma Corrin, 27) assumes it is a murder and begins the investigation before the perpetrator can strike again.

At first glance, “A Murder at the End of the World” is reminiscent of Rian Johnson’s (49) crime hit “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” which was released on Netflix at Christmas 2022. But the dark trailer for the new murder mystery makes it clear with oppressive, almost claustrophobic images that the miniseries is going in a completely different direction. In addition to “The Crown” star Corrin and Owen, co-series creator Brit Marling (41) and Harris Dickinson (27), known from “Triangle of Sadness”, can also be seen in other roles.

After the end of the extremely popular “Breaking Bad” spin-off “Better Call Saul” (2015-2022), Emmy Award winner Bob Odenkirk can be seen in a new series project. In the darkly humorous comedy series “Lucky Hank” he plays the disillusioned college professor William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr., who is in crisis at work and also in a midlife crisis.

When one of his students confronts him in a seminar, Devereaux launches into a veritable tirade of hate, criticizing his educational institution. Of course, a student records this “rant” on her smartphone, but the English professor does not take back his hurtful, denigrating statements afterwards.

Will Bob Odenkirk be able to build on the popularity of “Better Call Saul” with his new series? After such a gigantic success, the bar is naturally set very high. A second season has not yet been confirmed for “Lucky Hank”, which aired in the USA in the spring. In Germany the show appears on Magenta TV.

With “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” a new series from the so-called MonsterVerse starts on Apple TV on November 17th. The MonsterVerse has so far mainly included films such as “Godzilla” from 2014, “Kong: Skull Island” (2017) or most recently “Godzilla vs. Kong” (2021). Now the giant monsters can be admired for the first time in a live-action series on the smaller, home screen – and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” promises to be a genre highlight.

The series format with its longer narrative arcs suits the disaster film and Kaijū genres well. A series of human characters on different time levels are carefully introduced here, who, among other things, gradually discover that giant monsters like Godzilla actually exist. Due to the slower pace of the narrative, viewers can build a real connection with the human characters and really root for them, unlike in the usual disaster films of the past such as “2012” (2009) or “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004). when they get into trouble and danger.

Veteran star Kurt Russell (72) plays the soldier Lee Shaw in the action series, whose effects are completely inspiring. At an earlier time level, his son Wyatt Russell (37) embodies the same character. Anna Sawai (“Fast

The thriller series “One Billion Dollars”, a German production, will be released on November 23rd by the US streaming service Paramount. John Fontanelli (Philip Froissant, 29), a bicycle courier from Berlin, one day suddenly inherits the incredible sum of one trillion US dollars. John becomes the richest person on earth overnight. Suddenly he is supposed to take care of urgent human problems such as climate change, environmental pollution or unleashed financial capitalism. However, his gigantic legacy also brings a number of powerful opponents onto the scene.

The main role in the adaptation of the novel of the same name by Andreas Eschbach (64) is played by Philip Froissant, known from the historical series “The Empress”. For his portrayal of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) he was recently awarded a German television award as “Best Actor”. The great character actor Oliver Masucci (“The Swarm”, 54) can be seen in another role. He plays a character named Malcolm McCaine.
