The musician stated that the musical climate has changed and songs that worked 10 or more years ago won’t necessarily work today.
Charlie Puth feels good!
Bustle spoke with Charlie about the upcoming album. He also talked about his relationship with TikTok and how it opened up a way for him to share his true self with the rest of the world.
“What works well for The Weeknd only works for him, and two other artists.” Puth, 30 years old, stated that he needs to show his personality. I wasn’t doing this because I was surrounded myself with record label and producer heads who thought that you were a huge act. It is important to get away from the world and focus on your art. “
He said, “The pandemic forced me to realize that I must not only not do this, but also the opposite.” “I must show each step of the process.”
He also thought about the growth of his music and how he felt in 2019 when he was at a low point both personally and professionally.
He said that the musical climate has changed and songs that worked 10 or more years ago won’t work today. “[It] made it easy for me to feel pretty bad about my musical performance, and that I wasn’t as famous as Harry Styles.”
He also spoke of a “vicious breakup”, which was the cherry on top. He described it as “a giant ice cream cone” with two scoops of s —,”.
Puth teased the release of his upcoming album, “That’s Hilarious,” in March. He cried as he recalled that same breakup. It is believed that it was about Charlotte Lawrence, a singer and songwriter to whom he was attached that year.
He said, “I’m excited for the song’s release, but every single time I hear it I’m kinda brought back to a time when I was really, really, truly, really difficult in my life,” while becoming emotional. It just rears its ugly heads every time I hear it.
“Attention” singer said, “I’m also excited for you to listen it — but I just listened to the master and it brought back 2019 which was my worst f–ing years.”
