MTV announced recently that it will reboot The Hills with an all new cast. Patridge stated that she and her fellow The Hills: New Beginnings cast members were shocked by the news.

News of The Hills was rebooted surprised Audrina Patridge, a series alum.

Patridge, 37, spoke on TalkShopLive about her new book Choices: To The Hills And Back Again. She also shared her thoughts on MTV’s decision to revamp the franchise using a younger cast.

To be truthful, I can’t believe that they do this. We were all shocked. We were all shocked, especially because we had 14 people on The Hills: New Beginnings. It was really difficult to film the show because there were so many people.

“So, the fact that they now have a new cast with 20 people I don’t know how they will do that. She said, “It’s going to a very busy show.” It’s a bummer, but they want a younger generation. As you age, you are more responsible and care more about your image. We’re not in our twenties anymore so it makes sense to get a new generation of children. They’re going be wild and carefree.

A spokesperson for MTV confirmed to PEOPLE that a new Hills series was in development in May. According to Deadline, The Hills: Next Gen will feature a new cast that is expected more diverse than the original.

The logline stated that the series would follow a group of friends aged twenty-somethings and aspiring entrepreneurs as they grow up in Los Angeles. They will have to deal with reality of race, class and identity. Family drama, addiction, family drama, as well as the thrills of romance, becoming self-made in the exclusive Malibu hills.

Patridge claims that the original cast discovered about the new version at the same moment as the rest.

“We all sent each others like, DMs, messages, and texting of what was available from Instagram, like the announcement. We were all like, “Oh, my god!” They are remaking The Hills. I can’t believe it. During the live stream, she stated. It’s a shock. The Hills is a great example of how we have done our job. We didn’t have much drama to offer. We are all like moms and dads, dating, and a bit more reserved than we were before.

She believes it will be strange to see the series without its stars, but she will still tune in to the show.

“The Hills” was an iconic reality series. It is a unique reality show. It helped to create that soap opera reality. “It is going to be really strange with new people taking control,” she stated. “But I believe they’re going try to change [the whole thing]. … It won’t be like the original Hills. It’s going to be amazing. I will have to tune in to watch. It’s impossible for me to not.”
