In the words of the Emeritus Professor of Philosophy of Education at the Complutense University of Madrid, José Antonio Ibáñez-Martín, “responding to those eyes that look, that dream, that call, that trust that the educator they meet is capable of solve their doubts, help them make decisions, shape their character, talk to them about today’s ethical problems and how to analyze them, give them keys, both to deal with their emotions and affections, and with the education of intelligence».
Personalized education is reaching a great boom due to the success achieved in the classroom and beyond, but its foundation is little known worldwide. Therefore, ‘Educate looking into the eyes.
Philosophy of personalized education’, the new book by Javier Pérez Guerrero published by EUNSA, has a solid philosophical perspective on which to base this educational modality. The author intends the double objective of proposing for personalized education a solid anthropological-philosophical base and at the height of the times, and of giving a continuation to the transcendental anthropology of the philosopher Leonardo Polo that brings it closer to said pedagogical conception, nourishing and strengthening it. : that unfolds this practical aspect by encouraging personalized education from within, and the pedagogy that supports it.
The only book that Leonardo Polo dedicated to education, ‘Help to grow. Philosophical issues of education’, also published by EUNSA, was one of the factors that prompted Pérez Guerrero to try to achieve these goals. But, above all, the reason for being and the main objective of this book is due to the fact that, according to its author, «personalized education is still waiting for a philosophical base at the height of our time, of our contemporaneity, and, therefore, at the height of personalized education, which is precisely the response of our time to one of its fundamental challenges; to a reality that has been becoming in recent decades a particularly problematic and conflictive institution, such as education». In this way, the book consists, rather than a linear discourse, in going around a series of crucial issues without stopping at any particular observation post.
However, although it may seem otherwise, this book is not only aimed at specialists in the philosophy of education, but is intended to be useful to anyone who is interested in personalized education, especially educators. However, Polian philosophy and its transcendental anthropology are not easy to understand, especially for those uninitiated in the philosophical discipline. For this reason, the author has made a special effort to make this volume an interdisciplinary and informative work, but trying at all times to respect both the inspiration of Leonardo Polo’s philosophy and the genuine spirit of personalized education.
