After starting her own podcast, Duchess Meghan also wants to share her life more with the public on social media. “I’ll get back to you… on Instagram,” the 41-year-old told American lifestyle magazine The Cut. When this should happen and what she wants to share with her fans remained open.
With her entry into the British royal family, Meghan, who previously worked as an actress, had to stop being active on social media and on her blog. She loved sharing her life back then, but loved her partner Prince Harry even more. “It was a big change – from the level of autonomy to a different life.” At times, she and Harry (37) maintained a social media account called @sussexroyal, on which they shared their own photos and news – unlike what is usual in the palace.
“There is a structure that as a member of the royal family, if you want to publish a photo of your child, you first have to make it available to the British royal press,” Meghan recalls of her time in London. “Why should I give a photo of my child to the same people who use the N-word for my child before I can share the photo with the people who love my child?” The British gossip press had reported about Duchess Meghan, who has Afro-American roots, sometimes with racist undertones. With his departure from the palace and move to the United States, the couple had said goodbye to social media completely.
In the sensational television interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Meghan also accused the British royal family of lack of support and racism. With a view to reconciliation, the Duchess said: “I think forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy not to forgive. But it also takes a lot of effort to forgive.”
In her new Spotify podcast “Archetypes”, Meghan talks to other prominent women about female stereotypes.
