Rapper and hip-hop star Snoop Dogg (52) has announced that he will stop smoking marijuana. The artist announced this on social media. In a post he says: “After long considerations and discussions with my family, I have decided to stop smoking.” The musician added: “Please respect my privacy at this time.” The 52-year-old remained silent about the background to his decision.
His followers and fans were divided in their opinions, some apparently didn’t quite believe Snoop Dogg’s words and joked about his sudden abstinence. According to media reports, Rohan Marley (51), son of the legendary reggae singer Bob Marley (1945-1981), commented: “No more BBQ at uncle’s… the grill is out for the season.” However, other users also reported bad experiences and health problems, such as a pulmonary embolism, from consuming marijuana. Another user on Instagram celebrated Snoop Dogg for publicly announcing he was quitting – especially considering he made so much money from the trademark.
Over the course of his career, smoking marijuana became Snoop Dogg’s trademark, with many of his business decisions and media appearances revolving around the drug. According to media reports, he also announced in 2002 that he would finally stop using marijuana. However, this didn’t last long.
In 2013, the artist, who has been successful since the early 1990s and is considered one of the richest rappers in the world, told “GQ” magazine that he smokes 80 blunts, tobacco leaves filled with marijuana, every day.
