Minutes of shock for Caroline Beil (57) and citizen Lars Dietrich (50): The presenter and actress and the entertainer were on stage on November 21st for the play “Rent a Friend”. After the premiere in Worms, however, there was a fire in the hotel where the two were staying. They had to be evacuated.

“We were scared to death,” they both told “Bild”. Beil, who was on the second floor at the time, explains that she went to bed in the cathedral hotel around midnight and was woken up by a “crazy bang” around 2 a.m. “After the fire exploded, I looked out the window of my room and saw that everything below us was on fire.”

Dietrich “jumped out of the window onto a car on the first floor. I tried to get out through the stairwell with other guests. But nothing worked. The smoke was too thick. We were scared to death. Everyone was in a panic.” Despite the horror, she and her colleague “got away okay,” and other people had to be ventilated. Beil is sure that “it would have been too late” if she had woken up just a few minutes later: “My nerves are exhausted.” But she was also “happy that we had such a guardian angel.”

“The whole hallway was already filled with smoke and I couldn’t get into the foyer,” the 50-year-old tells the RTL station. On the first floor he then “went into someone’s room and then opened the window and jumped out of the window […]”. In addition to Beil and Dietrich, their fellow actor Torsten Münchow (57) also had to leave the hotel in the middle of the night.

According to the fire department, a fire broke out in a cell phone repair shop next to the cathedral hotel. 59 people would have had to be evacuated. Both the hotel, which is currently uninhabitable, and other buildings were filled with smoke. Several people suffered smoke poisoning during the night.
